Dress for Success

Mission Outreach is now accepting women’s clothing for the Huntington Dress for Success store.  Dress for Success is a world-wide organization that helps women as they prepare to enter the workforce.  They provide free clothes for job interviews and work environments.  The Mission Outreach Ministry Team is collecting gently used, clean clothes and accessories.  If anyone would like to donate any recent business casual clothes such as dresses, suits, jackets, pants, blouses, or sweaters for the spring and summer seasons only, please bring them to the church cleaned and on hangers (there are hangers available for hanging also).  The team is also collecting accessories such as shoes, purses, scarves, and jewelry.

Donations are being collected in the “off the Narthex” coat hanging area, and boxes are available for the accessories.  We will collect the items through Mother’s Day, May 14 and then deliver everything to the Huntington store on 4th Avenue.  For any questions, you may speak with Claudia Moody, 304-549-9801 or any Mission Outreach team member.  Thank you for your help!

In February, several women from TVPC visited the Recover Point Charleston site to learn more about the women’s addiction recovery program.  The facility is located on Stockton Street on the west side of Charleston and houses up to 100 women for a long-term program of recovery from addiction issues.  During the visit to the new program, the TVPC ladies determined several possible ways to help and support the women.

The present mission is to provide raised bed gardening tools and gloves for the women.  Saturday, April 22 several raised garden beds were built for the women’s use on their site.  They will raise vegetables for their meals this summer.   A red garden tub is sitting in the Narthex to collect any donated garden tools and gloves.  We will continue collecting tools through Sunday, May 21.  As the collections come in, we will deliver them to the women for their garden work.  Our thanks for your help with this mission!

Also in the plans…we will be hosting a Movie Night for the women of Recovery Point.  Plans include bringing several different desserts to serve and having a movie for the women to enjoy.  Tentative plans are for Tuesday evening, May 16 or 23.   If you are interested in participating in this activity or have questions, please speak with Chris Key or Linda Hansen.

Drivers Needed

Help Needed…We need substitute van drivers for our van service each Tuesday morning at 9:30, taking Teays Valley Manor residents to Kroger’s.  Bill Stevens has faithfully driven the van for several years, but a recent foot injury will keep him from this mission for at least a couple months.  Other than being a “safe driver” the only requirement is a copy of the driver’s license sent to our church’s insurance company.  There are presently three other TVPC members who have occasionally filled in for Bill.  The goal is to have several drivers who could assist with this important mission.  If you could help, please contact Karren Sparks in the church office, 9:00 to 1:00, Monday through Thursday.  Call 304-757-6073.
